The tournament joins the US and Australian Opens in implementing video review technology.
Replay technology are set to arrive at The Championships for the 2025 edition.
Players will gain the option to contest particular calls from the official, following the practice currently in operation at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the remaining featured courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This development comes just a year after the All England Club introduced ELC, which effectively ended the 147-year tradition of line judges.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players cannot to dispute the accuracy of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the umpire to review specific situations, including:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- If a shot touched an rival's racket or person during play.
- Possible interference at the conclusion of a point.
Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the number of reviews a player can initiate.
Practical Application
An illustrative example occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
The British player conceded it was a tough situation for the official, but believed his opponent had "played the rules effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and ruled the player was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to his opponent.
Growing Trend
Video reviews aren't new for Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the American major since 2023 and the Australian Open this year.
Furthermore, it is increasingly prevalent on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.
Additional Innovations
A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the introduction of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves situations where fans have sometimes been unsure whether a shot was out or in.
Finally, with precisely a century of days to go until the beginning of the tournament, organizers have further announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in Roehampton.
