Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring in the opening stages.

However, the southern French side fired twice late to take a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the match into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen seasons.
