A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for nearly 30 months with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with former mentor Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court after that period of 2023.

Success also means he has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, comprising in that event previously this season.

His counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to question if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

But the athlete has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, striving to come to the net and play positively, backed up by an better serving game.

He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the final five games to go ahead.

Both players exchanged breaks in the middle set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.

He rescued four initial break points in a competitive third set before the Russian won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
